13 December 2016. Walk towards Ankor Wat and Fumigation Day

Having spent a good deal of time last year exploring the temples around Siem Reap, I decided to walk up to Ankor Wat and just remind myself of it from the outside. No chance. At the checkpoint about halfway to the Temple, it was made clear that 'foreigners' had to buy the $20 pass even to walk up the road. As I really didn't want to make a major temple visit, I decided to head back into the town and remind myself of its landmarks.

O the way, I came across an upsetting exhibition on the exploitation of the oceans by unscrupulous fishing mafia - often but by no means exclusively Chinese it appeared.

I also noticed the sign about mine clearance of the forest I was walking beside. Incredible to think wandering off-piste could get one blown up

Back at the hotel, the afternoon event was the mosquito-spraying. This was something of a silent Spring overkill and the smoke wafted through my door, hopefully not killing me to boot!
