Rather than rushing off to the sites around town, I decided to have a quiet walk around town. I'm glad I did as I came away thinking what a nice place it is.
Leaving the hotel, I walked up to the river and turned left along the river bank. This brought me to the very pleasant gardens by the river. They sport a brand new tourist office and toilets, with the plague noting membership of the World Toilet Association.
Then I carried along the river past Wat Sanker
before taking the footbridge to the other side. This leads up to the Governor's Residence, a splendid and suitable building for the office-holder.
Going past a small garden centre,
I got to the museum. It was shut for restoration and I carried on into the centre of town. The old buildings are very attractive, particularly if one raises one's eyes above street level. A bit shabby but quite St Tropezian.
There is a large market selling everything from fruit to shoes and jewellery and I had a look round before making my way back. On the way, I noted the EU flag fluttering happily on the river side. More welcome here than in the UK!
I also came across what must be the grimmest sculpture, found in Wat Tahm Ral Saw
Also on my rambles, I was amazed at the number of scooters in the school car park
and also had a wry thought at a notice that perhaps needs to be displayed at Poipet
It turned very sultry and rained a bit in the late afternoon. Quite drowsy weather!
In the evening I went to Ambrosia, an establishment that sells beer at half the price of most and does a fish amok that tasted good but had a minute amount of rather strong tasting fish. So strong, I worried that it might seek revenge in the night but these fears proved groundless!
The walk back illustrated how pretty the town is by night.
